Ken Blacktop Gentle “... art that tells a story.”

Ken Blacktop Gentle is a American  contemporary artist who began painting at an early age as a way of sharing his experiences of growing up in the Southern United States. Over 50 years ago he began creating watercolor paintings and in 2002 he began creating multi-media paintings and drawings that typically start with a base of 'black tar' or tar paper on wood (hence the moniker “Blacktop').  His modern-primitive style complements the stories he tells.

The painting above:  "Rain-A-Coming” 2023.   (Watercolor on paper)
